Today, Kunsthal Aarhus issued a press release stating that the new Artistic Director of the exhibition venue has been appointed: Jacob Fabricius.
Fabricius was chosen from a selection of thirty applicants. “There were very strong candidates from the USA, Australia, Europe and the Middle East, but the board of directors were unanimous in their choice of Jacob, who is one of the brightest talents on the Scandinavian art scene,” says Preben Mejer, chairman of the board of Kunsthal Aarhus.
The press release also quotes the director of the National Gallery of Denmark (SMK), Mikkel Bogh: “What great news to hear that Jacob Fabricius will be the new Artistic Director at Kunsthal Aarhus! Jacob is a contemporary curator of international standing, always full of new and original ideas and with an unswerving sense of how to present works so that they unfold their full potential. His extensive experience with exhibitions and his vast global network of artists, critics and curators puts him in an excellent position to make Kunsthal Aarhus an epicentre of contemporary art in Northern Europe.”
During the period 2013–14 Fabricius was director of Kunsthal Charlottenborg; before this he was director of Malmö Konsthall for five years. Fabricius currently works as a curator for CNEAI in Paris. At Kunsthal Aarhus Fabricius will work alongside Administrative Director Iben Mosbæk Hofstede.
Fabricius takes over the position after Joasia Krysa, who went on to accept a combined position with the Liverpool Biennial and Liverpool John Moores University.
Jacob Fabricius will accede to his new post in January 2016.
