Torunn Liven er kunsthistoriker, utdannet ved Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin og Universitetet i Oslo. Hun var masterstipendiat ved forskningsprosjektet CULCOM (Kulturell kompleksitet i det nye Norge) med masteravhandlingen Image vs. text: Aesthetical operations and ethical–political spectatorial production in Amar Kanwar’s A Season Outside (1997) and The Lightning Testimonies (2007). Hun har vært teaterkritiker bl.a. i Norsk Shakespeare- og teatertidsskrift og har arbeidet som prosjektleder ved Black Box Teater, og som informasjonssjef ved Oslo Nye Teater og ved Nationaltheatret. Hun har bidratt til utstillingskataloger bl.a. ved Nils Aas Kunstnersenter, Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Rom for Kunst og Kivik Art Centre, og har som frilanser skrevet bl.a. for Objektiv, Dagens Næringsliv D2, Dagsavisen, Klassekampen, DOMUS (Milano) og Citizen Kane (Paris.)
