Diana Baldon has been named the director of the art center Index in Stockholm. Baldon is an Italian curator and critic, currently based in Vienna. She has curated a number of international exhibitions, such as The Second Athens Biennial, HEAVEN (2009), A Question of Evidence at Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, Vienna (2008–9), and Left Pop at the Moscow Biennial 2007. Baldon writes for several art magazines, including Afterall, Artforum, Flash Art and Texte zur Kunst. During the spring of 2011, she was a resident at Iaspis in Stockholm, where she curated the Open House-program ”Extra Muros”.
Currently, Baldon is working on a dissertation with the title Tracing the Political in European Post-Conceptual Art after the Year 2000. While it’s too early to speculate on the orientation of Baldon’s directorship of Index, it is clear that the subject of her dissertation fits well into the exhibition program that has been established at the art center over the last decade.
Diana Baldon succeeds Helena Holmberg, who has worked as a curator at Index since the mid-1990s and has been the acting director since Mats Stjernstedt left the institution in January to assume the directorship of Kunstnerernas hus in Oslo.
