Funen Art Academy has announced that Jeuno JE Kim will be the academy’s new professor. Born in Seoul in 1977, Kim holds a BA in music from Oberlin College in Ohio, an MA in theology from Harvard University, and an MFA from University of Illinois, Chicago. Even so, she is no stranger in the region. She has lived in Sweden for a number of years, primarily in Malmö where she, along with Simon Sheikh, was head of the Critical Studies programme at Konsthögskolan in Malmö. In recent years she has exhibited her work at Overgaden Institute of Contemporary Art in Copenhagen, Signal in Malmö, and Antechamber in Copenhagen, and this summer she was part of the Nordic group exhibition Nordiska Modellen® at Malmö Konstmuseum, presenting the feminist animation project Krabstadt – part of an ongoing project, active since 2009, executed in collaboration with Ewa Einhorn. The project addresses subjects pertaining to the construction of the Nordic countries with particular emphasis on political rhetoric and national branding.
The Academy received 185 applications for the position. A total of 29 candidates came from Denmark, 156 from abroad; 89 were women, while 96 were men.
Jeuno JE Kim will take up her new position as of 1 February 2014. The other professors at Funen Art Academy are Mary Coble and Kristoffer Ørum. The staff also includes visiting professor Sidsel Meineche Hansen and the art theorist Mathias Danbolt.
